J. Layne Smith is an experienced, aggressive civil trial
and criminal defense attorney. Mr. Smith tries cases throughout
Florida, and he is a member of each federal district court
in the state.
For years now, Mr. Smith has been AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell,
based upon the peer reviews of other attorneys and judges.
He is recognized as a lawyer who has “reached the height
of professional excellence,” and has been recognized
for “having the highest levels of skill and integrity.”
Mr. Smith received his Juris Doctor degree with high honors
(graduating in the top 10 of his class) from Florida State
University. In law school, he graded on to Law Review, and
was a member of Moot Court. Mr. Smith received his Bachelor
of Science degree cum laude, from Florida State University,
in Risk Management and Insurance.
J. Layne Smith attended the United States Air Force Academy
for a semester, where he played football. He still has a linebacker’s
determination, when it comes to stopping the opposition.
Since 1987, Mr. Smith has been a member of the Florida Bar,
the Order of the Coif, and the Order of Barristers. J. Layne
Smith is a family man, and is active in his community. He
is a former Rotary International Club President, a former
District Secretary, and a former Rotarian of the year.
